Is anyone going to PMB archives - who could have a quick look at the European Immigration Card Index ?  I have tried asking them by email but received no reply.

I am looking for the Horsman or Horseman family, especially Thomas and Ruth Horsman,  between 1861 and 1868.
A daughter Elizabeth was baptised in Yorkshire in February 1861.
I believe a son Jeffrey was born in Natal in 1863,  and was named in his grandmothers will as being in Port Natal in 1873.
Thomas died in early 1868 in Broughton, Natal.

thanks

Sue

Dear Sue,

I read with interest your posting on searching for the family of Ruth and Thomas Horsman. I am trying to trace my great-grandmother with little success - she was Ruth Regina Horsman who married Frederick Dainton Stevens in Natal. She was born circa 1892 and died rather young (1923) so there's little knowledge within the family of her side of the family. Her death notice does not reflect the names of her parents and I simply can't find any birth or marriage records - at least not yet. We thought she may have been the daughter of Ruth and Thomas given the name link, but cannot validate this as yet.

In case you were not aware of some of the best places for tracing South African ancestors / descendants there are some useful links :

If I can find anything for you, I will be in touch.

regards
Malcolm

I have just seen the enquiry on Ruth and Thomas Horsman and Family who apparatly emigrated to Natal South Africa in early 1860 s.
I am also interested in this family who are my paternal ancesters.
You may have progressed sufficiently to your own needs by this time but it would be interesting to be in contact to see what information  we both have.
I have only recently discovered the Horsman connection to my family.
Hope to hear from you in due course.
June
My Ruth Horsman was nee Watson 1840-1922 married to Thomas Horsman 1839-1868 in Yorkshire England in 1860.
I understand they had 3 children- Elizabeth b 1861 in Bedale Yorkshire. .Jeffrey b1863 in South Africa and Emma Mary b 1868 South Africa.
Thomas and Ruth with Daughter Elizabeth must have emigrated prior to 1863 when Jeffrey was born.
Thomas died South Africa in 1868 but I do not know the cause of his death.
I do not know what happened to Ruth after Thomas `s death or where she eventually died in 1922.
Would love to know more about this family.
Anyone help please,
Regards
June
