Hi reyz - glad you are finding this interesting. From what you say it looks as if that is why my Mum was given the info in 1977 as her youngest Uncle was born in 1901. Her Mum was actually one of six children, one died at 1 year old, but, all I managed to find out about was two before my Mum died in 2002. As you know it's now all much easier on line whereas before you had to actually go to places. I started my search in Ruthin Gaol which is where the Denbigh records are kept, but, I didn't find all the children until I could look on the internet. I'm sure I'll find a living relative one day as my Paternal Grandfather was one of six children & both my Maternal Grandmother & her sister, Ellen Hardy who married into the Morris family, which could be the same one as my Father's (!!!???) had six children each. You've done well to actually meet yours. I found someone with my Grandmother in their family tree on Genes Reunited a couple of years ago, but, their relative who knew about it refused to give any info & became distressed when it was mentioned. That's part of the trouble in those days it was all cloak & dagger stuff. Hope to speak again soon Mo

Hi again

Sure you will find a living relative one day especially as family history is now so popular. It's a real shame the person you found, found it too distressing to talk.  Lets hope there is someone else out there that can help?

I found my distant cousins through the surname SMITH in the end.   I got a death certificate for Great Gran's Sister, who was the last of the siblings to die.  Her daughters name was on it, a single lady and I found her death.  I obtained her Will, and luckily the the Executors was still at the same address a good few years later.

Best wishes

Could someone please tell me what is meant by a "Foundling Hospital"?...and where are they located in a specific county ? are there several?...what about one for Brighton area?
Are there records for them? and if so where could I locate the records or web sites/E-Mail address?
Sorry for all the direct questions, but maybe my mother in law was a nurse child.
thanks for all the help, very much appreciated
Dave

Hi Greensocks  A foundling Hospital is a place where unwanted children, mostly illegitimate were taken to be cared for. The only one I know is Thomas Coram's in London where my Mother was brought up. A payment was usually required to admit the children & they were given another name. In my Mother's case she was told her real name plus a little about her family when she was in her sixties & I believe this is only given when the last of the child's immediate family have passed away. Sorry I can't be of more help. Mo
