Davis & Stayner in Dorchester
« on: Thursday 06 May 10 21:38 BST (UK) »
Hello

I have traced one line of my family back to Henry Davis and Eliza Stayner who according to the IGI married on 11th October at St Peter's, Dorchester. From the census records Henry appears to have been born c1801 and Eliza a few years afterwards, both apparently in Dorchester.

However, I've been unable to find and birth/baptism records that fit the bill for either and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to progress from this brick wall?

I'm hoping to make it to Dorset Record office at some point to see if the marriage register sheds any light but until then I'm somewhat stumped.

best wishes

Donald

Daisy

That's fantastic! Thank you ever so much for that. Although Henry Davis was born in Dorchester they were certainly in London by the time their son was baptised. Looks like Henry may have gone their first and then returned to get married. And I had hoped there would be some witness info that would help.

The IGI has the marriage as 11th rather than 7th. Is that from the original or from another transcription?

Really appreciate your efforts.

best wishes

Donald

Oops my mistake :-[

It says the 11th, I got the transcription from 'England & Wales Marriages, 1538-1940'.

I have modified my above post to show the correct date.

Hi. We appear to be directly related to the Davis-Stayner family that you reference and the brief details that you posted match our information. We are in Saskatchewan, Canada and the other branch is in Texas. Minus -27 to day plus wind chill in Saskatchewan. We are researching various resources in the Dorchester area and will post anything that we find that may be of help.
