1891 Lookup - Israel HOWARTH - Completed

Please may I have an 1891 lookup for Israel Howarth born c1833 in Wigan.  I believe him to be the Israel Howarth that is residing in the Lancashire County Lunatic Asylum in 1881, so he may still be there

The County Lunatic Asylum, Prestwich appears to have recorded its inmates only with initials in 1891

RG12 3272 113 26

There is an I.H age 54 bn Oldham, who could well be your man.

Hi Barrowboy,

It is the same for the county asylum at Whittingham in Preston -inmates recorded by initials, age and marital status only, not even a place of birth  :'(

Ref for Whittingham is RG12/3448 with keywords 'County Asylum'.  Folio no. 129 gets you to the asylum staff, who are named in full. then scroll around from there. 30 pages of them! I cannot get the inmates to appear on an Ancestry search - don't know if 'the other lot' are any better
