Hi Pam

Just trying to find anything on the children of William Paterson and Catherine Bell. The only possible lead I can see at the moment is for their son William, chr/ 1803 in Cadder. I think he went on to marry a Margaret Walker and died in Kilmarnock in 1873. He looks to have been a Box & Trunk Maker by trade.

There is a short tree on Ancestry for William and wife Margaret. The only thing on parents William Paterson and mother Catherine Bell, is that father William Snr. is down as a school master (may be a link to the idea of a professor, but not so grand!). Source of the info is not given, but perhaps it has come from William Jnr's 1873 death cert.

The children of William Jnr and Margaret Walker, from IGI:

1. WILLIAM PATTERSON Christening: 29 DEC 1822 Cathcart, Renfrew
2. HELEN PATERSON Christening: 05 JUN 1825 Cathcart, Renfrew
3. CATHARINE PATERSON Christening: 04 MAY 1828 Galston, Ayr
4. THOMAS PATERSON Christening: 07 JAN 1831 Galston, Ayr
5. REBECCA BELL PATERSON Christening: 16 AUG 1833 Galston, Ayr
6. MARGARET PATERSON Christening: 28 JUN 1835 Galston, Ayr
7. JAMES PATERSON Christening: 04 FEB 1838 Galston, Ayr

Monica,
Emailed the man that has the Patterson Bible again. These records came from his in laws.
He is excited about  the William possibility and promised to go through boxes information again. Lets hope he finds more clues.
Once again thank you for all your help! I could not have found any of this with out you!  :)

Pam,
FANTASTIC news!!  I have found a gentleman in Scotland who is of this family!!! :) :)  Yes, William Paterson and Katherine Bell are the parents of James.   I have some info on sibblings now, and am working backwards.   Once I get it all together, I'll send it along to you.

Were it not for the internet and the posting of those Bible pages, I don't think I'd have ever fit this together, nor found the gentleman in Scotland (who is a 73yr old Paterson).  :)

More soon!
Gretchen

I am really pleased for both of you - that's a great result!

If you need to exchange any files or personal info, just click on the small green scroll under your names on the l/h side of your names to access the Private Message service (PMs). Works very much like email services with inbox/outbox. Good way (the only way!) to exchange personal emails.

Clever you Gretchen for finding the verification  :)
