Bradwell near Sea lookup please
« on: Wednesday 05 May 10 10:54 BST (UK) »
Hi, can anybody help me with a lookup of Bradwell Near The Sea Parish Registers.  I'm looking for the name Dudley between 1800 and 1837. I believe William Dudley from shoreditch, married and begun his family here.

Thanks very much
Angela

I believe some of the parish registers for Bradwell Juxta Mare are on the IGI.   Have you looked on familysearch?  Otherwise they will be at Chelmsford Record Office if nobody responds here.

Andrea

I haven't checked, but you might find some information at

http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk/Default.asp?SearchDocs=3&SearchType=12

Type Bradwell Juxta Mare Parish Register in the search box.

Hi and thanks for the replies. Mike I took a look at the seax but the parish records don't go that far, but I will certainly use it for future reference, thanks again.
Andrea I have found some information on the IGI, I'm just never too sure how accurate the info is on there, but it certainly helps, thankyou.
Here's what I found, if anyone can confirm it with the parish register entries, I would be grateful.
1. William Dudley married Dorothy Riley 27 Jan 1821 Bradwell Near The Sea Essex
2. William Riley Dudley 20 Jun 1824 Bradwell
3. George Riley Dudley 07 Jul 1833  Bradwell

Best Wishes
Angela

On the whole you can rely on extracted entries on the IGI, though obviously you do need to see the original to check if there is extra information.   It is the "submitted" entries that can be total fabrication.   They may have a grain of truth truth though so may be a pointer in the right direction.
By searching on the batch number I found a George Ryley Dudley baptised in 1822 - is that an extra one or is your date wrong?

Hi Andrea, thanks for that, your right my date is wrong, talk about inaccurate information ( and getting older )  :)
One reason I wish rootschat would allow us to copy and paste, the more times information has to be typed, the more times there is likely to be a mistake.
Thanks again

Hi Angela,

George Riley Dudley's family has been well documented as his son was the infamous Capt. Tom Riley Dudley (Google Dudley and Mignonette for details). I know some of Capt. Tom's family here in Australia.

I am a descendant of Michael Dudley who appears to have been born in Ealing, Middlesex in 1754 s.o Thomas and Eleanor Dudley and who settled in Mevagissey, Cornwall after a long career as a mariner. My family was linked to that of Capt. Tom's as he was imprisoned in Falmouth, Cornwall for a time and the only Dudley family who resided there were my people.

It is quite possible that William Dudley is connected to my Michael as the Shoreditch Dudleys are the only other family to have a child named Michael (William Michael Dudley b.1785).

Regards,
Ryan Dudley
