According to a line I spotted in the Sunday Express today Bruce Forsyth has also filmed an episode and was 'Fascinated by his findings' ...................... it was a one line note at the end of an article about 'Strictly' so not a lot of info apart from that.

Does this mean that BBC haven't aired the US version with Sarah Jessica Parker etc?

I have just watched it on RTE, Ireland's National Channel.

Yes, it looked like they pulled it for some reason.

... Some years ago I contacted the Goldsmiths Company regarding records of "Goldbeaters" to be told that they had nothing that could help me as goldbeaters were not really craftsmen!! ...

I have to say that my experience with the Goldsmiths Company was quite different. When I enquired if they had any information about an ancestor, the librarian replied with 2 pages of details she had extracted from their archives, in fact everything she could find about several members of my family over many years, including one who ended his days as a pensioner in their almshouses.

I can't praise her highly enough  :)

As a family history enthusiast I would love to hear the ordinary people's stories but totally take on board the opinions here about the fact that celebrities stories pay the bills for the tv company.

But look at Heir Hunters on BBC - that has interesting stories about non famous people.  But that's because the research is done by an existing company chasing the estate money.  So TV company films it cheaply.

I guess it's the research time and expertise that costs the money.  However, look at all the expertise on this and other sites - surely that could be harnessed in some way to make programmes.  Loads of people - not just those who do the research themselves are interested in Family History.

You experience highlights the vagaries of this game.

It must come down to who you speak to.  I dealt with a man, who was quite frankly just this side of rude and condescending about my g/grandfathers occupation.

Think I will try again in the week, you never know, I might have more luck 2nd time round.
