Hello. I know this is an old topic and I'm sorry for starting it again, but I've only just started researching my family tree. I stubbled across this post via Google.

My Grandad is Charles Drake, born Bootle Liverpool, 1910. His father was Charlie Drake, Born 1870 Thornton Bradford. I have seena Census record showing my Gt grandfather living with Abraham Drake as his father in Green lane Thornton Bradford. So Abraham Drake is my Gt Gt grandfather. Mary Ann seems to have had a child also called Abraham (very confusing when children are called after their fathers!) But there is no father for Abraham Drake Jr. I only have 3 census records for this part of my family, which doesn't shed much light on the, who is the mother situation. I was just wondering how anyone one got on looking for marriage/birth certs?

Any help would be very much appreciated. :) Thank you!

Hi all,
I have an ancestor Susan Bland of Haworth who married a Yates Drake of Clayton in 1809 at Keighley.   They had several children, one of them John b 1817 married Sally Bolton and went to live in Thornton where several children were born.
The name Reuben Drake features strongly in this family line, Yates's father was a Reuben. Unfortunately I have not come across an Abraham Drake.
Hope these snippets might be of use.

Thank you Dave. I've not looked much yet for other Drakes from that area. Hopefully I will shed some more light on this branch soon and be able to use that information.

Hi
MaryAnn is my great grandma .I can give you more details about the family later when I get home from holiday as then I will have access to my records.
I have always wondered why some of the family moved from Thornton to Liverpool.
MaryAnn had a brother William and I am still in contact with his Liverpool descendants but I have no knowledge of Charles' family

Hello Seadragon
I am very excited to hear I have some relatives that I didn't know about, especially so soon into my research! I have no idea why Charles moved to Liverpool either. I assumed it was for work. I have quite a bit of information about his family as he is my gt grandfather. I can even tell you where his grave is. I have pictures if you would be interested.
Have an enjoyable holiday and I will look forward to your return more than you do! ;)

Hello Stickytoria
The Thornton family history of Abraham Drake has taken some unravelling and these are my findings which may not be wholly correct.
Abraham b1827 had parents William b1796 and Mary Sharp b1796 they had 8 other children(including a Charles)
Abrahams first wife was Hannah Leach b1827 and were married in 1854.Their children were William b1855 MaryAnn (my gt grandma) and Charley b1861 who died in 1863(I think) Hannah died in 1868.
Abraham then marries Elizabeth Redman in 1869 and they have a child Charlie in1870 who I think is your gt grandfather.
So Charlie will be step brother of William and MaryAnn.
William was widowed and young Abraham was his son,but William married again when he moved to Liverpool to Margaret and they went on to have 5 children. This family were always in contact with their family in Thornton namely MaryAnn who had married Wright Stanley.
I believe young Abraham married Isabella in 1899 while your gt grandfather Charles married Eliza in 1903
I will be interested to know if you know differently.I am trying to work out how to do a private message to you so I can tell you more details.
Hope I have added to your family history
