St. Mary's Alverstoke Marriage Register, WARRINER/WILDS
« on: Monday 03 May 10 23:12 BST (UK) »
Good morning,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with a marriage record in Alverstoke please.

My Gx3 Grandparents Thomas WARRINER ch Kirby Moorside, Yorkshire and Phillis WILDS ch Edenbridge, Kent had their first [known] child in Sunderland, Durham in 1783.

The only marriage I have been able to find, which MIGHT be theirs, is a marriage in IGI of
Thomas WARRANNAR & Phillis WILDS 16 OCT 1780   Alverstoke, Hampshire.

I was wondering if someone would be able to check this record, to see if there is any mention of where this couple were from please.

Best wishes,
Jennyalogy

They normally just say whether of the parish not actual place names.  :(

Hi Patrish,

Yes, I realise most early marriages do just say if of the Parish the couple is marrying in, but sometimes the place the parties are from is recorded.

I was hoping to be so lucky with this couple ;-)

Thank you very much for your reply which I appreciate.

Kind regards,
Jennyalogy

I've found the marriage in a register transcript but unfortunately it is only a basic transcript.  I've checked the marriage licence allegations for Hampshire, but there is no entry.  There is an entry in Pallot's but nothing to indicate if it took place by licence or where the couple came from.

I should perhaps have asked how you arrived at Phillis' maiden name if you have not yet located the marriage.  The combination of the names cannot be very common and I would be inclined proceed (with caution) that this is the marriage.

If the couple married by banns, then it means that they were living in Alverstoke at the time and fulfilled the residency requirements.

That's OK - it should at least have witness names to add to what you already have.

Hi Kaz,

Witnesses names could be so very helpful.

Thanks,
