Hi All,
Charlotte,
I have found your Hargreaves grave, and there is a stone, albeit only an owners marker.
It had slipped into the grave due to subsidence, i have cleared the foliage arround it.
Regards,
Andy

Andy, thank you very much indeed or the photo and also those you sent me direct. I've been offline for over a week and my email is still bung >:( >:( >:(  [never go near Win7 >:( >:(]  so I haven't been able to thank you.

What is so significant about "Owner" that it is put so prominently on the headstone?
In the case of the Hargreaves I would have thought the grave would have been owned by the Almshouse.

Thank you again Andy

Charlotte,
The " Owner" type of gravestone is much smaller than the usual type, i suppose its economy but still denoting the person interred.
I do not know of the Owners books being available to have a look in to confirm who paid for the plot.
The Almshouses would probably not have paid for the grave, there were in those days, burial insurance plans, you paid a small ammount each month for years in advance to enable you to be buried with decency in your own plot, my own family had one, and the Co-Op had a plan that paid a fixed dividend when you needed to bury someone.
Regards,
Andy

Andy, can I just say that you've done a truly wonderful job for Charlotte and Jan, I have a mental of picture of "you" with a camera slung around your next, a notebook and pencil in your top pocket, machete in hand hacking your way through the undergrowth!  Well done you!  ;D

I'm not aware of any of "my lot" being buried in KX, a lot of mine are in Stoney Royd.  Parkwood Crem have the Owner's Book for SR, maybe they have it for KX?  Just a thought.

Hi Andy

Would you be able to locate my grandfathers grave in King Cross Cemetaty please? I believe he's buried in Section A, plot 205.

His name is Thomas McManus and is buried with my grandma, Hilda McManus in the Fletcher family grave.

Many Thanks

Antony McManus

Hello Anthony,
I managed to find time to go to King cross today, and found the grave easily.
I have attached a photo, i have taken a dozen more, if you P M me with your email address i will forward them to you.
To find the grave, park on Skircoat Moor road, outside the car hire shop, go through the double gates to the left of the shop and walk down the wall side until you come to some graves on the left behing the shop.
Your grave is top row, second from left, easliy found and relativeley clear of growth.
The picture i have added is compressed to comply with RootsChat file sizes.
Regards,
Andy.
