Yorkshire Clergy
« on: Sunday 02 May 10 19:40 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a gentleman called Howarth who was connected to the church in Yorkshire between about 1900 and 1930. Sorry this the only information I have. Can anyone help please?

There is a directory of clergy - Anglican only (I think, not sure) - Crockfords Clerical Directory.  A lot of the main libraries would hold copies, and I believe that the Directory was updated regularly.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I did look in a 1951 Crockfords just in case he lived that long but there were 7 Howarth entries and several had worked in Yorkshire so using that alone may not be enough.   Yorkshire is a very large county so we really do need to pin it down a bit more.  Why did you choose the North Yorkshire board to put this on?  How have you come across him?
Regards
Andrea

My friend  was adopted soon after birth (father unknown). Her birth cert shows her mother to be a Howarth and at the time of birth living in Westminster, London.
Her adopted parents told her she was from Yorkshire and her mother was only 18 years old and her parents were connected with the clergy.
I have traced possible males who could be her great grandfather. These are William, James, John, and Albert Howarth.
My friend who is now 63 years old is trying to find her roots and this is the only information she has, hence we are looking for some connection to the church or chapel.

I have amended your post as we do not publish any details of living people to avoid identity theft etc.   This one is going to be very difficult.  Have you looked for a marriage for the mother?    That might help as it would give her father's name and a death entry (if she is deceased which is an unknown factor) would give a date of birth.
There are tips for searching for living people and about adoption on the Beginners' Board so do look at those.

Crockford is a regular publication, so there is a new ed. every two yrs or so. It covers clergy of  the Church of England only.

If you worked out when the clergyman possibly involved was in Yks, then went thru those years of Crockford that might narrow to field.

if you have any facts about this clergyman, maybe there could be something in the entries sillgen so kindly found that may jump out at you.
