septimus ralph purkins was born in northumberland,tyne and wear in 1887
here he is in 1901

do not know if this is of any interest but
there is a septimus purkins born 1887 arriving at london from bombay on the 18/3/1926. on board the ship" rajputana" his occ is fireman and the address he is going to stay at is given as 84,northwick street,south benwell,newcastle upon tyne
think this is probably him
