Dasker . . . . ?

From 1759 in the Parish of Bothwell, Lanarkshire.

I've had many suggestions but no-one has yet been able to come up with an exact meaning. One offered suggestion was "Damasker" .

I have a copy of the original page and the handwriting is perfectly legible so it's not 'dodgy' handwriting!

 a damasker is  one who works with damask cloth.



 Damask  is a cloth often used to make tablecloths.

I've already been to every site I can find including the one you mentioned. I've even tried just typing the word 'dasker' into search engines . . . nothing!

I think it's going to be one of life's little mysteries - one that drives me nuts!

 Dasker?
I came across the word 'Dasker' as an occupation on a page from Bothwell OPR's.

The entry reads:

"Pollok, Marion, Daughter lawful to John Pollock, Dasker in Bothwell Town and Jean Muir his spouse born the 17th Day of November. Baptized the said Month 1759"

I have attempted to upload the image to this posting but have been unable to do so.

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

 'Dask' is a Scots word for a desk, so a 'dasker' could conceivably be a desk-maker.

You've probably realised by now, I've tried posting everywhere!

I liked the 'Junior Member' bit, I wonder if this is based on the amount of postings?
