Certificate problems?
« on: Friday 30 April 10 09:05 BST (UK) »
Just wondering if anyone else had any problems with getting certificates from irish-certificates.com

I applied for a marriage certificate in january and paid £25. It hasn't arrived so I sent two emails which were ignored, rang the number, which went straight to answer phone and left a message which has also been ignored.
Anyoneone else have any problems?

Hi there

I'm just curious as to why you didn't go through the Irish GRO? http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm.  For €4.00 you can get a photocopy of the cert. :(

Only reason was I tried them first and think I must have got a new employee who insisted on telling me that I couldn't get a marriage cert for pre 1864 even though I had the volume and page number. I gave up in the end and ordered it from this other site. After reading your reply I tried your link again and they said no problem - a photocopy would be 4 Euros.  ???

Thanks for reply - at least I am sorted now but an expensive mistake!

Oh dear, that's a shame. You must have been unlucky that day :(  I found them to be so very helpful.  Yes, I have had a few expensive mistakes too, but at least it isn't too expensive to rectify it!  :)

So sorry to hear you got ripped off. It is such a poor reflection on Genealogy in Ireland.

Has anyone else experience of irish-certificates.com?

As with Daisy Loo all my experiences with the GRO in Roscommon has been very positive.

Next time you run into a problem please ask on RootsChat before wasting £25.

Dara.

Hi, Just a word of warning, I used irish-certificates.ie to get a copy birth cert and paid them 40 euros for their 3 day service as i am desperately trying to renew passport. They dodn't answer emails and their phone number is never answered and their voicemail box is full. In frustration this morning I got the official hse website and for 4 euros I can have the same in 5 working days.
I would warn everyone to steer clear of   [ http://www.irish-certificates.ie/l]

..... I couldn't get a marriage cert for pre 1864 even though I had the volume and page number. ....

I take it you had a non-Catholic marriage?  The employee must not have realised that April 1845 marked the start of non-RC marriage registrations.

I told him that but he was adamant I was wrong.
