Birth Certificate 1880
« on: Friday 30 April 10 08:09 BST (UK) »
Good Morning All,

I wonder if anyone can make out two words on a birth certificate we have for Mary Earrel.  (Later changed to Earle) We are having problems with the third and forth words in the section 'Name, surname and maiden surname of Mother'
We know that Mary's mother was another Mary and her maiden name was Craig - but these middle two words have me stumped and I bet it's really easy!

Many thanks
Vikkic

Any chance you could make it a little bigger...I can read the formerly Craig bit ,but not the words before that  ::)

It is definitely late 'something '(meaning her last married name) is it Smith?

It does look like Smith - though the "S" doesn't look quite right.  :-\

Vikki, is there another capital "S" on the certificate that we might be able to see to compare?

Hi

Was Mary's father William by any chance, as there is a marriage on Lancashire BMD 1875, Liverpool district of a William Earrol to a Mary Smith. Unfortunately there is no other surname given for her which often is the case if they have been married before to check she is the one.
