I am wondering if anyone has seen a list of photographers names and times they had their studios. I know I saw a list somewhere but I cannot find it. I am trying to find out how long William Ferrier had his studio in Dundee.

Hi biddy  :)

I've seen lists for various places, but not for Dundee.  Did you want to find out about a particular photograph you have, or was it the photographer you're interested in?

Cheers

Hello Pru I have a photograph taken sometime between 1890 and 1905 and I wanted to find out when his studio was open in Dundee and for how long. The only identification I have is the name of William Ferrier, Tally Street, Nethergate, Dundee. If I could tell exactly when the picture was taken I would know if the boy on the picture was my father or his falf brother.

Hi biddy,

Why not post a copy of your photo on the Photo Restoration and Dating board?  We can almost certainly narrow down the date for you  :)

Cheers

hi all  :)

looking at the 1881 census -

william ferrier age 31 photographer born scone perth
living at 6 king street dundee

if this is the man then he could have been active anytime 1890 - 1905
so directories or a look at the photo might be your best bet
