Curious case of Amelia DEED nee BUTTON
« on: Friday 30 April 10 00:08 BST (UK) »
The curious case  of Amelia Button. When / where did she die / buried?

What I know is that Amelia was born 1882 near Warnambool, Victoria (from marriage cert)  and married Benjamin Deed 1902 in Queen St Melbourne. Marriage Cert 6316/1902 records that  Benjamin parents as Benjamin and Jane Eade and Amelia’s as James and Mary Jane Langdon. Havent been able to find death details for Amelia

Death cert of Benjamin (Vic 10716/1949) has mother & father as Benjamin and Jane Eade and states “NOT MARRIED” (Informant on cert was ‘authorised agent’)

Benjamin & Amelia had a daughter, Jean Muriel Deed, born 1899 in Carlton Vic (don’t have birth Cert) which means that she was born before parents married and Amelia about age 17 years. She married Jack Stanley Blakey 1915 in Vic (Cert 7447/1915) and this confirms Jean Muriel Deed’s parents as Benjamin and Amelia Button. Jack and Jean later had at least three children

So why would death cert of Benjamin say not married? But more importantly when and where did Amelia die? Any help, clues etc would be appreciated

Hi Weemalla
Checking the Electoral rolls for Victoria Benjamin DEED and Amelia seem to be together up until 1924

1903 Upotipotpan, DEED Benjamin Labourer, Amelia homeduties
1919 6 Charles St Windsor DEED Benjamin Labourer, Amelia home duties
1924 6 Charles St Windsor DEED Benjamin labourer, Daphne Amelia home duties
After this there are listings for a Benjamin DEED and a Amelia DEED but they are living at different addresses.

Cheers Leonie

I can't see a birth registration for Jean Muriel .

Hi
I am a bit intrigued by the DAPHNE Amelia on the 1924 electoral listing from c more.

Is it possible that this is a daughter, not AMELIA the wife??

The couple had been married long enough to have a 21 year old daughter.

Alison Post #3 Yes this article refers to Benjamin Snr- poor devil- fancy getting one month goal when you are age 69!
Sparret. The Deed v Deed divorce in 1938 might be a lead. Is it possible to get details and if so from where?
