Ronan, Clonrush, Galway
« on: Thursday 29 April 10 16:11 BST (UK) »
I'm hoping there may be someone who can help me find information on my Irish ancesters. My great Grandfather moved to Australia in 1856. The shipping records state that his parents were Patrick Ronan and Bridget Hennessey from Clonrush, Galway. I have had no luck finding any information on Patrick or Bridget. I would appreciate it if anyone could give me some ideas on where to start looking.

I'm afraid you are not going to have to much luck with Clonrush records. Civil registration didn't start until 1864 (1845 for non-catholic marriages) so you will need to see church records. See this link for details of the church records for Clonrush & the condtion they are in

I have a Patrick Rohan born in Tipperary 1831approx married in Liverpool UK 1853 and died 1878. I was in Ireland in Aug and visited 2 families of Rohan living in the Nenagh area. One owns a pub Rohan's in Nenagh and the other live in Clochjordan not far from Nenagh. Their ancestory came to the area from Clare in about 1850. Michael. They believe he was originally from Ogoneloe in Co Clare. I also found that the records for the parish church in Nenagh go back to 1811 or so. I found the early entries spelt Rohan as Roughan which is the Irish name and was mainly found in Co Clare. The name changed to Rohan for birth entries about 1825. My lot were tailors just in case they maybe a connection . Hope this bit of information my help you in your search.
