Jockeys/Trainers
« on: Friday 25 March 05 19:15 GMT (UK) »
In my late father's papers I found a card about a stagecoach journey from Brighton to Epsom on Derby Day 23 May 1883.
My GGrandfather William Jackson of Brighton is described as "that famous 'Whip', late a trainer and jockey of repute, brother to Harvie Jackson the once celebrated steeplechase rider" . Harvie may be David Harvie Jackson as he is described as a jockey in the 1871 census.
Where can I find details of their horseracing exploits?

Their obituaries in the local  (maybe even national?) newspapers might be a good place to start if you don't already have them and assuming that they were published.

His home location+nearby stables site are known, now destroyed.
Any possibility of relevant records here,+Trade union records??
Plus he seems to been exempt from conscription,if such was in force WW1,reasons for same being?
