Hi Ann,
I to am searching Sowray and have found it spelt souray as well,
my search is in yorkshire my gggrandfather was William Henry Sowray b:1851 he Married Ellen Evens 1871 came to Australia 1876 he had Joseph William Sowray ,Augustine Sowray   when arrived in Australia there was a Margaret St James Sowray b :1876 and the ship docked 27/1/1876 my problem is I have never herd of margaret but of Katherine St James Sowray 7/1/1876, there was a story my grandfather used to tell of his grandmother being born on the way to Australia and that she was a twin but , so one must have passed away but why the swap of names , would you know if they register the birth on the ship or when they get of maybe just decieded that Katherine was better name and the ship was the "St james "hence the middle name assisited passage and there name was spelt Souray . Wounder if we are family some how .
