Italy: My Italian Relatives
« on: Tuesday 27 April 10 11:18 BST (UK) »
Would anyone be able to recoomend any   good resources that are available in order to track my Italian relatives. I have Ancestory and it doesnt help me much the IGI isnt helping me either. I would be looking for births and marriages around the 1840's - 1860's.

Thanks
Sharon.

Hi
Albertina who married Jerome Cavazzi was born in Parma in 1851 i have little else to go on and Jerome was born in Piacenza. From what i can put together they came to Newcastle i presume married as i cant find any UK weddings for them and started off a life in Newcastle.
Thanks
Sharon.

Hi Allen,

Thanks for that it was interesting to read although none of my Giordanos or Cavzzi were mentioned  :( it was interesting about the mosaics, as one of my relatives were mosiac workers too. Do you know if they would only sail from Italy to Liverpool or would Newcastle be a post too?

Thanks
Sharon.

Hiya Sharon....sorry , but I don`t know....I would have thought Newcastle was trade - whereas Liverpool had trade and passenger ships ,you`ll have to see if someone may be able to answer you ....allan :)

If Albertina was born in 1851, then in Italy you will not find her birth certificate, as records in Archives started to be collected around 1860.
You can find her baptisme act, but only if you know in which parish this happened...
Instead, you can find her marriage act, because she surely was more than 9 yrs old when she got married, so this act will be registered in the Archivio di Stato.
Usually marriages took place in the maiden town, so you should look in Parma first.
Try to contact Parma's Stato Civile, and send them an enquiry with your ancestors data.
This will be enough if they got married in Parma, but if Albertina originally came from the towns surrounding Parma, you'll have to ask to the Archivio di Stato of Parma.

Hi Sharon

Did you get the name Jerome from UK census as it doesn't seem like an Italian name theres no J in the Italian alphabet. This is just a thought perhaps its something you hadn't thought about.

Hi Sharon

Me again just looked at the 1911 census & I could see his name spelt as Jerolamo so more than likely its Gerolamo.
