Nantlle (retitled)
« on: Monday 26 April 10 13:51 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find information on Miss Winnie (Winifred) Evans who was headmistress at Penygroes County Primary School. She was a cousin of my father.

She and  her four  siblings were born Nantlle,  living in Kinmel Terrace. Later, she and her sister Maggie lived in a house close to Penygroes Railway Station.  Neither of these ladies married.

I attended this school for a few years in the mid 1940's and she was headmistress then.

Help appreciated !

Diolch

Hi G,
Can you be more specific about what you would like to know? Would Winifred be on the 1911 census? Have you got a name + age for any older brothers?

Morning Pinot,

Sorry, I should have been more specific.

I have the family 1911 living 6 Kinmel Terrace, Nantlle, (1891 they were at 8 Kinmel Terrace)

Thomas and Alice Evans nee Jones
Laura Jane born 1892.
Maggie born 1894.
Winnie born 1897
Jennie born 1900

Their brother Evan born 1890, steamship sailor,  was in 1911 staying with my taid and his family in Bootle !!

I am trying to find  out  how long  Winnie was headmistress at Penygroes school, and when she died

Evening Glenys,
Thanks for the extra details; http://www.nantlle.com/home.htm is probably your best hope for both your enquiries (unless you are lucky enough to hit on a RC member more local than me). The website notice board looks to be the best place to post an enquiry - email link provided on the site.
The community paper is 'Lleu'; these are the details for the editor:

If you need help with translation let us know,
                            regards,

Morning Pinot,

I already post on the Nantlle board, but find there is very little response to queries. Several weeks ago I emailed them with two messages to be put on the board, to date neither have appeared!

I will  now contact the community newspaper "Lleu".

Thanks again Pinot,

Glenys :)

Pinot,

I have just received death certificate for Winifred Evans, she died 1960 Penhegan, Nantlle, Llandwrog.

Informant was an E.W.Hughes, 2 Victoria Terrace, Nantlle.

Every answer brings another question...................

Whereabouts in Nantlle is/was Penhegan, and who was E.W.Hughes????

Penhegan I can't recognise; it looks more Cornish than Welsh, but could be the name of a house. Are the other details on the certificate local? Any possibility that you're misreading it? Any chance of  a scan to view here?
Glad you got the certif, anyway; E.W. Hughes could be a neighbour or anybody.

I have been trying to scan/cut and paste part of this certificate which I have stored in my documents file,  as I can with emails/letters etc., but without luck.

Any help would be welcomed!
