Parish record look up?
« on: Sunday 25 April 10 16:06 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I don't know how possible it is but I'm struggling to find info online re John Leak (sometimes spelt Leake) who was born in 1816. His birthplace and living ranges from Troway, Eckington and Chesterfield annoyingly. He was married to a Sarah but I don't know her maiden name - she also ranges in birthplaces from anywhere in derbyshire to Tinsley in Yorkshire. I'd go down to the archives but I'm living down south. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks
Sam

Hi Sam,

Did you rule out this christening?

John Leak
birth 21 Aug, christening 4 Sep 1814 Wesleyan, Ridgeway By Eckington, Derbyshire
parents John and Mary

John and Mary are still at Eckington/Troway in 1841 with youngest daughter Elizabeth.

No I haven't ruled it out, 2 years difference in the birth date though, do you think this is possibe? Can I ask where you got the info from, just looked on ancestry and no such luck.

Thankyou!!

I wouldn't worry much about the little age difference. It's only one year in fact, given he was born in August and census time is around March/April.

Sorry, forgot to mention the source - it's an extracted IGI christening, found at www.familysearch.org

Other children christened to John and Mary Leak in the same batch:
William - 25 Dec 1811
Mary - 7 Sep 1816
Sarah - 9 May 1819
Frances - 18 Nov 1821
Margaret - 17 Oct 1824
Elizabeth - 9 Mar 1828

1851 shows both John and Mary born Eckington. The IGI has a marriage for a John Leak to Mary at Dronfield, which doesn't look far at all on a map, so it's a possible:

John Leak - Mary Fisher
2 April 1804 Dronfield, Derbyshire

Maybe these 2 children also belong to the same family:
Ann Leak 18 Jan 1807 Eckington, parents John and Mary
25 Jun 1809 Eckington, parents John and Mary
