Another of the
Casements Irish Brigade men that I am researching
Cornelius Rahilly was previously a clerk before becoming Private 10714 in Royal Irish Regiment. He was taken prisoner in 1914 and ended in Limberg Camp, where he joined Casements Irish Brigade
Keogh, the Sgt Major there, has him as "Con O'Rahilly of Cork". Keogh also gives him as later a lieutenant in the Old IRA. And that he became a farmer in Cork
1911 Irish census gives no clues. Only one Cornelius Rahilly of right sort of age, 33, but is married and invariably the Irish Brigade did not accept married men. The 1911 English Census does not give anyone.
The closest likely birth in Irish State records is at Kanturk 1880 Jul/Sep if he was born in Cork, and there is a 1888 birth in Tralee, Kerry. The 1880 birth ties up with a death in Millstreet, Cork in Apr/Jun 1947. This in turn leads to a 1911 census entry of a Cornelius Rahilly, of the right age, married for 2 years without children.
Apparently he wrote a full account himself first published in the Kerryman in the 1930s. But I have not been able to get that online. Does anyone know if that period can be purchased with an online subscription
