Help please with DAVID MCNAMARA
« on: Wednesday 10 March 10 14:42 GMT (UK) »
I have just work out theory about my great parents which is more likely a major possible.

My Great grandfather was married in 1870 in New Zealand his name was DAVID MCNAMARA.
David arrive in New Zealand in 1866 on Blue Jacket they were Bernard and Catherine MCNAMARA and settle at place call mt grey in North Canterbury.  Now David wasn't with them.  And when they died that he was only child (unusually in those and David had 8 children himself).

Bernard and Catherine MCNAMARA were from County Downs, Ireland.

Now to the next part of mystery is David wife ELLEN MARY SULLIVAN she always be a mystery woman my father couldn't tell me much of where she came for other the thought she was Irish. And one fact we did she named the young son with a family name Ambrose Brown.  To this day I haven't never been able to trace this family name.

Now why the Australian board to post on... After have research on Australia records at my local genelogy group tonight.

The penny finally drop as two other grand parent to Austraila first what the chance they went to Australia before coming to New Zealand.   having a look at internet tonight and other resources. I think this what happen.

So where do I start??   my grand father Robinson was giving to me and all did was check details.

Could this be true these great grand  parents too.

I don't wish to appear rude but  this statement is rather puzzling.

Do you mean  that Bernard and Catherine were his parents and they arrived at a different time to him, David that is

thanks Jenn

Also, can you give a year of birth for David McNamara and Ellen Mary O'Sullivan

Hi Jenn

I start realizing the facts very early hours of this morning and quick check of a disc have look like the have arrived via Australia

David MCNAMARA born about 1851 in County Down, Irealand his Parent were Bernard and Cathrine MCNAMARA

married in May 1870 at Amberley, NewZealand
to:

Ellen Mary SULLIVAN  born about 1850??   place unknown and parents unknown.

I can not find shipping record into New Zealand from Ireland for either them,   But I can find both name appearing coming from Victoria, Australia.   I can't not be certain these are my  Ellen Sullivan or D McNamara.

As stated orginally David parents came to new zealand from Ireland in 1866.

The family farm that my Grand Father was brought up was at Mt Grey just out Amberley.

So locical idea they when to Australaia first.

You can check departures from Victoria to foreign ports here  http://www.access.prov.vic.gov.au/public/PROVguides/PROVguide023/PROVguide023.jsp  The only Ellen SULLIVAN I can see travelling to NZ before 1870 was aged 7 in 1868.  Do you have a ship name for the Ellen that you found arriving in NZ?

Hi Jenn

Kerrin has been touch with before and know the name McNamara fit into McCrenor family.

My Grandparent are David McNamara and Jane McCrenor.

My Great Grandparent are David McNamara and Ellen Mary Sullivan

and My Great Great Grandparent are Bernard McNamara and Catherine.

So Kerrin was see if Charles McCrenor that she detail on was part of this picture and she also in contact with myself and has McNamara family tree.  Which she give her chance to make contact with another person to help one her contact for another website.  As she had realist she was dealing with same person.

So in this case Charles McCrenor is great uncle as he grandmother brother.  As there only two male ever come to New Zealand with McCrenor name one been James who married Hannah Quinn and had family (who was Jane and Charle's father) and Hugh who never married and died on West Coast.   There is good chance if looking for David and Ellen McNamara will know the name McCrenor.

Thank Kerrin I have send you personal message today.

My uncle married a Doreen McCrena or McCrenor as I now believe the surname is spelt.  She was born in 1933 and as far as I know her father came from New Zealand.  They are a mystery to me as well.
