Hello Bill
I am Bronwyn married to (*)grandson of James Patrick Galbraith and Edith Emily Hall. We have just received a bundle of papers from Colin's dad who died a couple of years ago. We live in Australia and are just beginning some research as nothing much has been done.

Our daughter Georgina is very keen to take over the research and is curious where the Spillards are from.

Look forward to hearing from you.
Bronwyn

Hi Bronwyn

Edith Emily's mother, Mary Alice Spillard was born 5 Mar 1863 in Kaiapoi - I think she was the 6th chld of 9 of Andrew Spillard and his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Tilling, (both born in London) after they emigrated to NZ on the Steadfast in 1851.

I have copies of some documents indicating quite a bit of research has been done into the Spillards, but I'm not sure by whom at this stage.  As a great grandson of Mary Alice and Charles Henry Hall I too am interested in their history and that of their descendants.

Regards,
Graeme

Hi Bronwyn and Graeme,

Welcome to Rootschat and the NZ Board, both of you.

If you want to talk to each other 'offline' you can do so by using the Personal Message (PM) facility, which will activate after you have made another two posts each, either on this thread or on any others. Look below your name on your own posts and click on the scroll icon.

If you have any questions either post them on this thread or send me a PM after it becomes available to you.

Thanks spades,

I hadn't realised the PM facility required 3 postings before it was available - no wonder I couldn't locate any such scroll icon or facility.  I guess this will count as one more posting, one to go...

Having nosied around the site a little more I can see there is a wealth of research resources available here, not the least of which is the expert assistance and rapid response provided by yourself and the wider community - well done!  It seems that some of the more prolific writers must live on this site!  ;)

Seasons greetings to all...
Graeme

...very much mostly the wider community Graeme, I'm just the bottle-washer  ;)

I'm pleased you've found the resources helpful.

To give you an excuse to make a third post, can you tell us a bit about your most interesting ancestor?

Hi Hall descendants
I am descended from another line of the Hall family. I live in Sydney, Australia, and have traced back to William Hall, in England, born about 1770, and have information on the line to Thomas Henry.

Hi Bronwyn

I note that you sent me a message regarding my posting of a couple of years ago and I did not reply. For some reason the prompt did not go to my email that there was a reply.

I am the grandson of Frederick Charles Hall, Edith's older brother. Would love to get in touch and share information.

My email address is (*) - which is possibly the best venue for continuing conversation.

Hope to hear from you in due course.
Kind regards
Bill
