hall, spillard, cunningham, galbraith, quinn *COMPLETED*
« on: Saturday 24 April 10 19:11 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to chase down more branches of my family. My great grandfather was Charles Henry Hall and he emigrated from Bradford, England to New Zealand and married Mary Alice Spillard in 1883.

My grandfather (their first born) was Frederick Charles Hall born in 1885 and was the eldest of 10 children. I am trying to establish whether I have other family members out there or if anyone else is researching this family. His siblings (who reached adulthood) were:

Frederick Charles Hall m. Lilian May Imelda Callaghan
Edith Emily Hall m. James Patrick Galbraith
Florence Milner Hall m. Charles Quinn
Ida Gertrude Hall m. Richard Stanley Cunningham
Blanche Hall (unmarried)
Victor Douglas Hall m. Jean Moir
Beatrice Maud Hall, m. Ernest James Cunningham
Edward Feaernley Milner Hall m. Frances May Binny

Would love to hear from anyone else who may be related or has information on any branch of the family.
Cheers
Bill

HI Bill
Where did they settle?
So you have obviously gathered a lot of info, to save repeating work, have you traced descendants for each of the childrens own families? or are there particular gaps

Hello Althea

I believe all the Hall children were born around Hokitika or Westport. From what I know, all except Victor Douglas Hall made their way up and lived in the Wellington area, with Victor Douglas remaining in the South Island around Nelson I believe.

Obviously I know of the children of my grandparents (Frederick Charles Hall & Lilian May Imelda Callaghan) - although not a lot about them to be honest. I was very young when they both died. But as for the balance of the Hall children, I know very little. From family story, I do not believe that many people were fond of my grandmother and Frederick seems to have paid the price, as his family largely stayed away. I knew he had 3 siblings (Edith, Blanche & Edward) but was extremely surprised to find out he was the eldest of 10 born.

Am sure I have loads of cousins and second cousins alike out there. Would love to establish some contact but obviously need to know who they are.

Well, at the risk of boring you, I believe that is a long-winded answer to your questions.
Cheers
Bill

Not boring at all
Its just good to clear what you need, otherwise posters will inundate you with info that you already have
Remembering we can't get to living folk info.
Following each marriage, then birth fiche can be searched to find children
Are you an NZSG member, just I see some possible certs there..

searching some of the pay site indexes can give you some clues on other researchers
Just good old google sometimes nets some amazing trees.

So do you have the deaths and burials for each of his siblings..death notices etc then to cover families
Any gaps there? that we can search for
Bye
Althea

Hi Althea

No not an NZSG member. As I live in London I can get access to a lot of the earlier data about when family lived here. But a little lost on NZ. In saying that, I have most of the information from Historical BDM (provided by a cousin who used to look into family but lost interest) of years of birth & death - with the exception of some of the in-laws (Jean Moir and Charles Quinn I don't have) but I don't have names of their children (my father's cousins) or beyond.

As an aside, I remember my father saying that one of his relatives was a painter (read artist) and had a painting hanging in Parliament House or somewhere akin. But have not had any luck tracking that down. Might be a myth!

Live in hope that I have cousins out there that I didn't know I had, who are also doing their tree.
