and maiden names were only added to our BMD index in the 1920s


it's useful to know that maiden names were added from 1903, but they're not in the online indexes. If you can go into the GRO, or ask someone to do it, you can check out the maiden names ...
but the mistranscriptions are fairly widespread!

I'm trawling through 1903-1927 for the thousandth time at the minute, as I have a few new families to follow-up.

My great grandfather is on the register with 3 different marriages for the same time all with the same  details i:e year, quarter, district, volume and page number with 2 marriages to the same woman but her name is spelt different both times and both are incorrect and a 3rd to the bridesmaid.

thanks, I didnt realize that...

I've have not done much research for the early 1900s, but have found the maiden names on births on the familysearch BMD Index very handy for following up more the recent connections ..
