Thomas McAlister b. 14.2.1875 Mossley, Co.Antrim

Just hoping there is something that may show any family in  and/or around Mossley which is only a smallish place.?

Also, more generally under which juristiction would births have been registered in those days? County Antrim? Ballyhenry,Newtonabbey? thanks.

I know McAlister was settled in Portsmouth England from 1900 at the latest, and MAY have joined the army as early as 1893.

   There is a Thomas McAlister, b 14-2-1875, in Tobergill, Donegore Parish, Antrim District. His parents were Thomas McAlister and Jennet/Janet Boyd. Another child is listed, Malcolm born 25 May 1864.

edit: I checked on the map, and a very liberal estimate is around 10 miles from Tobergill to Mossley (where McAlister declared he was born on a later English census)...that seems viable.

then almost 11 year gap until Thomas McAlister jr is born in Feb 1875? i wonder if we're missing anyone.

           My source was the IGI which you have found. Be wary of the dates as these are submitted records and not Extracted records which are more accurate. I have also checked Emerald Ancestors between 1864 and 1874 with no success.

Searching for children of Thomas McAlister and Jane Boyd in IGI (www.familysearch.org) brings up 3 children- at least one is submitted entry and it can't be assumed these all belong to one family since McAlister and Boyd are both very common Antrim surnames.

Hi,
   Following Aghadowey's hint I entered Thomas McALLISTER and Jane Boyd and found the three other children.  William John born 26 Aug 1863, Female McAlister 15 Dec 1866 and Jennet 25 May 1869. Spelling was McAllister/McAlister but all born Antrim or Connor Antrim.
