Murphy Cole Connection & Civil Registration Index
« on: Friday 23 April 10 19:40 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out more information about my great-grandmother Teresa MURPHY who married George COLE in 1849.

The only thing I have is the Civil Registration Index. I am trying to find out if it has the name of his and her father on these entries as seen below. I would appreciate a look-up by some kind soul as I live in the United Arab Emirates with no access to records.

Thanks in advance
Kathryn

Father's names are almost always included on marriage certs but there's no way to see the additional details without ordering a cert from the GRO - see 2 Minute Introduction to Irish Records for details on included on certs, ordering etc

be aware that since the marriage is before full registration started in 1864 it is either non-Catholic or in a registry office.

Thank Shane for your quick reply. The fact that it may be a Non-Catholic marriage or in a registry, would that make any difference to the type of information I might find on the certificate?

no - same details either way.

I only mentioned that detail in case you were specifically searching for a Catholic family.

possibly connected..Slater's 1846 Directory shows :

Christopher Bolton Cole, corn & flour merchant, 3 Queen st, Waterford

see:  http://www.failteromhat.com/slater/0121.pdf  (top left of left-hand page)
He is the only Cole listing I see in the Waterford City section of the directory. The homepage for the full directory is at : http://www.failteromhat.com/slater.htm

IGI (www.familysearch.org) confirms the marriage with a full date .. but no other details :

 Name : George Cole
 Spouse: Teresa Murphy
 Marriage: 03 Sep 1849, Ireland

Hi Shane

Thanks for those, although I had already seen them while researching this family. This Cole is no relation that I know of, as from his South African death notice he was born in England and wasn't Irish. Only Teresa was. Now with a name like MURPHY it is no easy task to research. As it is I have been cursed with SMITH in my tree too.  :)

As you say, I will just have to put my hand in my pocket and get the marriage certificate if I want to know any more.

Many thanks for all your help.
