Bill Quay/Milnew Quay

Does anyone know where Milnew Quay is/was? My relatives lived in Bill Quay but some census entries refer to Milnew Quay.

Can you give the census reference where it has Milnew Quay?

Milnew Quay is a place name in 1841 census in Jarrow. Starts at HO107/297/12/4/2. Doesn't seem to be there 1851 onwards. Hebburn Quay is an adjacent place name.

My great great grandfather was Ralph Bowsfield who is cited in the 1841 census on Ancestry as being at Milnew Quay in the township of Jarrow.

Another great great grandfather, named John Gibson, also lived at Milnew Quay. In the 1841 census he  is cited as a Publican. He died in 1843. In the 1851 census his wife, Eleanor, is cited as an Innkeeper. I presume she has taken over the same pub but she is at Pelaw Main and I'm not sure if it's the same place?

Can you give ther reference numbers for that 1841 census then we all can look at it?  Don't depend on the transcribers for Ancestry.  These are the same people who have hundreds of thousands down with a last name of "Do"-they have corrected that I think.

If you have Ancestry, when you do a Person search for a particular census, and are presented with a list of names. Click on "view record" on the left of the name you are interested in, instead of "." on the right.
The "Source Citation" at the bottom of the page includes all the info required for others to find the person.
In 1841 census, the important bits are piece, book, folio and page.
In 1851 -1901 census, the important bits are piece, folio and page.

As an aside, you can search street names for 1841-1871 census, at the Your Archives section of the National Archives. A work in progress, 1881 and 1891 to follow. Gives the reference numbers. Sometimes comes in handy cross checking birth/marriage cert details etc against the nearest census. You get house/street searches for 1841-1901 census if you have a subscription with thegenealogist, but its something missing from Ancestry.

Thanks for your help and advice. I don't have Ancestry but I do log on to it in the library now and again. Now I know what those numbers were you put in your earlier message! Thanks again!
