"Phthisis pulmon*****"

I believe it is a wasting form of lung TB - our families turn out to have had quite a few of such cases!

Pthisis is the Greek term for Tuberculosis. I'm always amazed at amount of my ancestors this disease claimed. At least 30%-40%. Slightly higher than the average I think as mine were mostly fairly poor, but it still at one time accounted for a quarter of all deaths in England. Well earned it's title of 'The White Death'.

"To add to the frustration, there is no way to check the status of an order online.  Instead, you must fill out a complaint form - which they promise they will respond to within 12 working days.  Yeesh!"

This is something I have always wondered at too, it would simplify the process so much for everyone involved and surely save them much money spent now dealing with people ringing up chasing orders etc. But like everything else no, the system is bizarre, elaborate and no doubt accounts for why our system is so expensive per cert, yet still loses them millions! The extra orders they have recieved this month must have bought them in well over 2 million pounds extra revenue, but that still less than a third of the losses they made last published financial year. Their orders are bound to dive, now the price has dropped, over the next year...so silver lining in the cloud is they may be forced into action towards providing a full digital service, and perhaps sooner rather than later.

I'm still waiting for 17 certs.  It's going to be exciting if they all arrive at the same time!
