How do i find!!!!!! please help me: family McLean/gray.
« on: Thursday 22 April 10 23:20 BST (UK) »
George McLean , Rebecca Gray and 5 children born in Ireland and living in Scotland .

I located this family on the 1841 census, living at Blackburn in the Livingston parish of West Lothian ,Scotland .
The father George was 50 years old, agricultural labourer born in Ireland. With him were five children namely:

Martha           17 years old.
Rebeckie        15 years old (sic).
Catherine       11 years old.
Robert            7  years old.
Mathew          3 years old.

There is no sign of mother  Rebecca, she was recently deceased.

On 1851 census , there is no sign of Father George, and no sign of Rebeckie. The family members are:

William Walker.
 Martha Walker (McLean).
Catherine McLean.
Robert McLean.
Mathew McLean.

If the census is correct then the McLean family had only recently moved to Scotland(After 1836 and Before 1841) as all the children are indicated as being born in Ireland. Years later however ,on the 1881 Census , i see that Robert McLean belived himself to be born in Livingston, West Lothian.

i cannot find George McLean and Rebecca Gray on Deaths and Burials registers in Scotland.

Anyone can help me to find this family in Ireland, or tell me how to do this ???

Best regards.

Patrick McLean.

Scotland: McLean ,Gay of Livingston Born in Ireland. Sinclair ,Linn,Bell,Finlayson,Ferrier of West lothian.
Sinclair,McIntyre of Glasgow.
England:Pattenden,Weston,Deeprose,Collins,Stapley,Weller,Manktelow(Sussex)

I think you mean 1841 and 1851 census  ???

The dates you are looking for are well before civil registration in Ireland and only fragments of census records survive so you would need to search for church records but to do so you need to know both the family's religion and where they lived- parish if not actual townland not just the county.

Earlier post is here-
www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,451753.msg3136205.html#msg3136205
but it looks like you might have found this information - if so it's best to modify the title by adding the word COMPLETED so others don't duplicate searches that have already been done.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
