I am seeking the burial site/plot of my sister EDNA MARY MYERS from Middlesbrough Cleveland who died on 25/6/1955. Not sure of the procedures in those days for people who committed suicide.Hope someone out there can help.

Hi Dougs4

I was visiting Acklam Cemetery Office today to look up some burials in the Registers and found Edna Mary Myers, buried 27 June 1955 in Grave No. A4038 at Acklam Cemetery, consecrated ground.  I will send you a PM with other details.

Tilly

Hello there,

I hope you don't mind me adding to this thread, but if your family did come from Hartlepool, where they related to Charles and Fanny Myers?  Charles was a plumber I believe.

Kind regards,

Hi Dougs4,

I was looking back into my old notebooks and found your query from ages ago, when I looked up the grave details for you.

I was visiting the Local Studies Library in Darlington this morning and thought I would have a look to see if there was any mention.

I found a small article in the Northern Echo relating to Edna's suicide.

"Inquest Verdict on Middlesbrough Woman.  At an Inquest at Middlesbrough on Saturday on Mrs Edna May Myers aged 29 of Sycamore Road, Middlesbrough, a verdict that she killed herself while the balance of her mind was disturbed, was recorded.  Mr Frederick Myers said that he found his wife on Friday dead with the taps of the gas oven turned on.  The Coroner (Mr A.O. Knott) said "Mrs Myers was one of those unfortunate persons who are highly strung.""

(I note that Dougs4 hasn't been on here for some time so will PM him too, in case notifications are not getting through, as is presently happening to me for some reason)
