Genetic Dna for ancestors

Hi has anyone tried any of the dna kits on Ancestry.co or others? Just wondering what peoples thoughts are about doing this, whether its a waste of time of not. My uncle has offered to do the cheek swab.  Have people who have done this connected with anyone?? Love to hear your thoughts :-*

I went through National Genographic and then registered with World Families and Ysearch -

I have developed my own family surname site at -

http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/edmonds/

Whilst I have not found an 18th century connection to my own family group,
I have successfully linked others in more recent times.

I maintain the site voluntarily!

The cheek swab is very simple and really, non-invasive

I think it is worthwhile.

My grandfather was James Lynch Ferrigan, illigitimate son of Mary Ferrigan. We never could figure out where the name Lynch came from.

My niece was doing rescearch in Edinburgh some years back and found a James Lynch on one of the census living not far from where Mary Ferrigan lived. We`ve joked that his could be the missing father.

About a year ago my brother did a DNA test on Ancestry and lo and behold when we recieved the results, we found we were connected to a Lynch, living in the US within 6 generations. Can`t find the common ancestor though. He`s hiding somewhere in Ireland.

wow thats a turn up  -- excellent result.

My illegitmates are both on the maternal side.. so wont help me there.. Shame.

Funny thing though, when trying to sort one out.. without too many details.  He is shown as living with some odd family in 1841 ... (I know its him due to unusual name, part of which he carried through life).
So in 1841 he was named as: Fred Bloggs (!!for instance)  then no sign anywhere in 1851..
in 1861 with a change of name to: Robert Fred Jones (again not real names) .. He kept the Unusual middle name and it has been passed through the family.. that is why I am not showing it.
as dont want to upset living people.....
Anyhow... when I checked the census.....thoroughly there just happened to be a Mr. Bloggs living next door to his mother.... so I checked this fellow out .. and he turned out to be    The Vicar of the Parish!?!?  now did his mom just choose a well known name, or is he the Vicars flyblow!!! I will never know ...............interesting, well for me.. probably very confusing on here, sorry.
