Weybread lookups
« on: Tuesday 20 April 10 18:22 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a marriage between Thomas Fulcher and Charlotte (surname unknown) in Weybread c. 1800.  Their first known child was baptised in Weybread in 1802.

I am also looking for Thomas' baptismal record to identify his parents.  According to his burial record, he was born abt 1781 but I am not sure if he was born in Weybread or somewhere nearby.

Thanks,
Lynwen

Hi Lynwen,

I have looked through Phillimores Suffolk Marriages and cannot find a mention of a Thomas Fulcher marrying a Charlotte I am afraid. Do you have any idea where Charlotte was born?

Regards

Hello Sean,

Thanks for taking the time to do the look up, especially with so little information from my end!

Luckily Charlotte appears in both the 1851 and 1861 census returns and in both instances, her place of birth is listed as Eye, Suffolk.

I realize it is a long shot but I got lucky last time so I couldn't help but try my luck a second time.   ;D

Thanks,
Lynwen

I can't help with the marriage but there are 2 Charlotte Fulchers buried in Yaxley:

21 Oct 1828 Charlotte da of Thomas & Charlotte age 28 abode Yaxley
23 Sep 1867 Charlotte age 87 abode Mellis

You don't say where your Thomas was buried but there was a Thomas buried in Yaxley on 2 Apr 1823 age 42 no more info & an Ann Dec1813 age 3 also daug of Thomas & Charlotte.

Yaxley is not that far west of Weybread - could this be the same couple? Hope it helps with your search.
K

ps.  As you say there is a Charlotte Fulcher on the 1851C born c1780 widow living in Tavern Street, Stowmarket.  Gives her birth place as Eye.  Yaxley is but 2 miles from Eye.  She is living with a William WHITMORE (Draper) & wife he was born in Mellis c1804

pps:  A search of Familysearch pilot brings up one Charlotte born c1780 in Eye - Charlotte Cook daug of Simon & Sarah 13 Oct 1779

Thank you both for the additional posts.

The Fulchers in Yaxley are all the same family.  Charlotte was living with her daughter, Jane Whitmore, when she died.  The birth for Charlotte is a possibility but I wish I could find the marriage to confirm it.  I have managed to trace most of the children of Thomas and Charlotte but not much luck going back any further.

Thanks,
Lynwen

Hi, Lynwen...
Did you look at the Thomas Fulcher Christening Aug. 25 1781 Occold Parish, England
Parents Henry Fulcher & Thomasine (  Day, if it ever works out to be the right birth)
Other spellings in the same batch file were Foulcher, Foulger,
added:
ah, :-\  now see he might be accounted for in 1861 Thrandeston

The middle names for Robert Harley Faust Fulcher seem to hold a clue..There were a few Harley and Faust births in the same batch file as his

I was in the records office today and checked the Weybread marriage register but could not see banns or marriage for Thomas Fulcher and Charlotte ~1800.

I did see the baptism of Charlotte Fulcher in 1802

Charlotte d/o Thomas and Elizabeth Fulcher (late Nichols) born 25th June publickly baptised 28th July 1802.

BTW no marriage for a Thomas Fulcher and Elizabeth either.

Not that it helps a great deal, but from the last posts, am wondering if Thomas was perhaps married before...or had Charlotte been proven to be the mother of your Charlotte?
