Does anybody know if there are records for Legge Street Independent Chapel covering 1825 - 1836 and for Livery Street Independent Chapel from 1836 - 1841

Have you contacted the archive at the Library of Birmingham? The catalog doesn't list anything for Legge St (but the notes for the archive say not everything is on the Calmview catalog). It does have an entry for Livery St: CC 28. Livery St Independent Chapel. 1842. Currently closed to readers (for assessment - presumably about condition). Note: "This chapel was first used by the Unitarians 1791 - 1802. It was then occupied by various congregations. In 1845, most of the church members seem to have moved to Highbury Chapel in Graham Street and the Livery Street Chapel was acquired and reopened by the Church of Latter Day Saints."

I am alive and kicking. Thank you for your reply. My interest is that my 4th Great Grandfather the Reverend Joseph Griffithe was the minister at Legge Street from 1825 to 1836 and moved with the congregation to Livery Street where he was minister from 1837 to his death in February 1841. I was hoping that the records were available in case there was futher information he may have entered.

On Tuesday last, in Well-street, aged 66, Mrs. Mary Ann Griffiths, relict of the Rev. Joseph Griffiths, many years' Minister of Legge-street Chapel, in this town.

On the 20th inst., at Aston, Benjamin, eldest son of the Rev. Joseph Griffiths, of this town, to Ann, fourth daughter of the late Mr. Walter Brewer, of Exeter.

Marriage, 20th April 1832, Parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul, Aston, near Birmingham, Warwickshire.

ADDED: might be his son, married by Banns and no ages given.

Dr Williams Library, London, had an online Index called the "Surman Index" of some of the Dissenting and Independent Ministers, but it won't open.

The information was usually on two cards, one by person's Name and the other by Place, make sure you look at both.

Some Cards also listed the Chapels that they were at and some Cards suggested a Birthplace and/or year, with references, giving a starting point to research the place of Birth further and check the accuracy.

According to John Rylands Library University of Manchester, they seem to have formed a partnership with Dr Williams's Library, you could enquire there if you wish.

Thank you Mark.  I  spent nearly a whole day at Dr Williams Library and from information I obtained was able to follow his career from Hoxton Academy where he was recommended by Rev. John Whiteridge who run Oswestry Academy where possibly Joseph studied. Joseph's  wife who was Mary Ann Adams was buried at St Paul's Birmingham 11 Nov 1855. Benjmin who married Ann (Hannah) Brewer Emigrated  to Australia  They had 5  Children 4 sons  and 1 daughter. Both parents died early 1870s in Maitland NSW as did 3 of their sans also in the latter half of the 1870s Isabella died in Toongabbie NSW in 1927. I do not have reason for their deaths but could be Consumption as all 5 died over a nine year period. Once again my thanks Tony
