Henton Family
« on: Sunday 18 April 10 06:51 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am trying to find further info on a JOHN HENTON.  He was born c1814 in Llandewi and married Maria Davies between 1830-1840.  They went on to have 8 children that I know of, the first (I think) being born 1841 (Mary) in Lampeter/Narberth.

I would like to know more info on John's parents/family and if a marriage date can be located for John and Maria.  Maria was born c1814 Llawhaden.  John was a farmer/labourer.

Probably looking for a needle in a haystack but hopefully someone out there might be able to help.
 :-\

Cheers,

Debbie

Debbie
I can find no reference to the mrge of a John Henton to a Maria Davies 1815 to 1851.
There is no Mary Henton baptized in the area of Lampeter Velfrey or Narberth area. There is mention of a Henton’s in Carew – Lawrenny area much later in the 19th century and the Henton’s of Llandysillo & Tenby circa 1817 to 1820’s.
There are some earlier Henton wills available at the NLoW, but do not fall in the area you indicate, however a look may reveal a family connection.
I do note the mrge of a John Henton to Hannah Phillips at Narberth in 1812 with earlier mrges at Llandisillio and Tenby.
I do note the burials of a Henry & Mary Henton at Llandewi Velfrey in 1831. There does not appear to be a will probated for either.
There is no Maria Davies baptized at Llawhaden within a couple of years either side of 1814.

I have a few John Hentons in the area, though no direct hits on birthdate and place. There is a John Henton b. 1823 in New Moat (10 miles away) and one b. 1830 Llandissilio (4 miles away).
Neither of these is a close fit, though I have no info on the former as to marriage. My theory on him is "I think he might have been the son of Thomas HENTON and Ann HUGH(ES). Thomas grew up on Castellgwyn (Farm, Llandissilio), the brother of John. I have 7 recorded offspring for them, the first is George HENTON b. 1821 New Moat…. the 2nd is Margaret HENTON b. 1826 Unknown. "

Thanks Ciderdrinker, having read that they appear to be an entirely different strand of Hentons, although mere miles away, I'm sure they're all connected further back in history.
