Peter Nocher was my great-grandfather! I do not know why they disappeared during that period though, best of luck.

Wow that post was awhile ago. Welcome to Rootschat

In the end we all agreed that Nocher (various spellings) and Connor (various spellings) were all the same family and that those surnames were Anglicized versions of the Gaelic name "Conchobhar" So they didn't actually disappear but were there all the time.

I have other instances were names became interchangeable. One is McCallion and Campbell. It really does make research difficult.
