I don't know if this is of any help at all to you, but before computer enhancements were commonplace, I took a very faded ( had been sepia) photograph to a place that not only took portrait photographs but also said they could restore old pictures. They were able to make a new negative from the old faint picture. From that negative they made a a print, and it was a big improvement over what I started with. I was pleased and took some other old pictures in to have them enlarged and improved. I don't know if you can find a person who does that kind of restoration. It might be worth a try.
