     hi Ev
Thanks for the info. I'am trying to link some bits and pieces together. Sometimes the surnames are confusing. I take it that Dun Angus refers to Dundee as that was where i knew my g/father from. Will keep on going  and am much obliged.

Yes Dun is very close to Montrose. There is the famous House of Dun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_dun) as well as the Church and have been out walking there often.

No, Dun and Dundee are two entirely different places.

The parish of Dun is between Brechin and Montrose, almost at the other end fo Angus from Dundee.

Hi

My grand mother was born in Montrose. Her name was Betsy Low Napier Lawson. She was born on the 01.04.1882. Her father was Alexander Lawson and he was a seaman (Mate) in the merchant service. They lived at 10 or 16 India Street. Can anyone expand on what I know?

Thanks

The International Genealogical Index at www.familysearch.org lists nine children of Alexander Nicol and Sarah Burness, including Betsy Low Napier Nicol, born 23 May 1850, and Sarah Nicol, born 21 April 1852.

You should be able to get Alexander's and Sarah's death certificates at modest cost on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - this should tell you the names of their parents.

See also http://www.burness.ca/ which lists Sarah Burness' antecedents and family.

Hello Lucia,
I am seeking info re James George STEPHEN born Montrose 17 July 1898. Parents were
John & Eliza. Siblings were Elizabeth, Jean, Meg & Helen. 1901 Census shows family at Balnabriech Cottar House, (no street given). Don't seem to be able to find a later Census.
James joined the Black Watch in WW1, then later the French Foreign Legion.
He emigrated to Australia after the war - date unknown.

Many thanks, June.
