Thanks, Lucia, for the quick reply with the links to a similar artifact and to the local historian.  I will try and make contact there. It could be a "false positiver" but learning about life in those times is equally interesting.  Your time in answering these queries is appreciated.  Keith.

Hi Lucia
I would dearly love a photo of 6 Seagate as an ancestor (Margaret Scott Steel (nee Gordon) lived there in 1861.  Before that she was in Castle Street but no number is given.  I've looked at Seagate on a friend's Google Earth program but would like a photo.  I'm new at this so not sure how photos are transmitted but I guess I'll find out!
Thanks for your offer to help
Ann

Hello,

I am back in Montrose at the weekend so I'll see what I can do. I can post the photo on here or send you it in an email. I will be in touch soon when I am able to get the photo.  :)

- Lucia

Dear Ann,

I went for a walk up Seagate a few days ago. I noticed that 6 Seagate doesn't seem to be there anymore (as it was). There are some new builds in that street and I believe only a few of the original houses survive. However I will try and get there again sometime and get some pictures of the area which may interest you. Let me know if I can help in any other way.

Hello Everyone,

So sorry I haven't been around for a while - everything is a bit insane in my non-internet life! I wondered if you all could remind me of my duties as I'm still keen to help you all find your ancestors. I haven't forgotten about you all.

Thanks  :)

Dear Lucia
When you have time, you'd offered to take photos of the old houses in Seagate for me.  Hope things are going a bit more smoothly for you now.
Regards
Ann

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help. My G G G grandfather was James Thom. According to his death certificate he was born in Montrose in abt 1819 and his parents were John and Jane Thom.
He was a master mariner when he died in 1865 in Victoria Australia. He married Alice Fitzgerald in Hobart Tasmania in 1849.

Are there any records of his baptism or other siblings? Also are there any records of his parents? I know this is very vague but it is all I can go on.

Thanking you

Jane

Hi Jane
If you don't get any (other) replies from Rootschat, the Angus Archives are wonderfully helpful.  It costs 20 pounds for them to do the research but they do a great job and have helped me out a couple of times with my Montrose family.
Regards
Ann
