Graham Hunter PIERCE
« on: Thursday 15 April 10 05:14 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I need some information on GRAHAM HUNTER PIERCE who was born 1849 in Southwark and died in 1911 Sydney, Aus. He married Mercy Burnet (not sure if this is a surname or middle name) and they had a daughter, Emily , who died in 1918 Sydney. Thanks!

Anna Edwards

Hi Anna,

The NSW BDM online index shows
14062/1918 Emily M READ, father's given name/s Graham H, mother's given names Mercy B, registered in the Sydney District.

I guess that "Burnet" would be Mercy's middle name, but the transcript of that record would give you a fuller picture.

Transcription agents (much cheaper than ordering the certificate, transcripts can be sent by email) http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,300394.0.html

What to expect to find on the certificate/full transcript http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/certificateDatesAndContent.htm

Cheers,  JM

Hi
Our National Archives website has an enlistment record of interest.
It is for a man names GEORGE CONSTANTINE PIERCE, letter carrier born in Sydney about 1898.
His father GRAHAM HUNTER PIERCE is his next of kin and he lives at TURRAMURRA.
Because he is underage his parents signatures are required and his mother signs as BERTHA G (GEORGINA) PIERCE.
Later in the file, in 1917, GEORGE confesses to using an assumed name and his real surname is MASTERS.

Asworn  declaration by his father GRAHAM HUNTER PIERCE refers to his son and is dated 31/7/1917.

This is the death you refer to above.

In 1911  PIERCE,  GRAHAM H.  father JOHN mother MARGARET  SYDNEYref.  4272

In 1908. GRAHAM H . PIERCE to BERTHA G.  MASTERS ref. 3550

There are a couple of entries in the Sands Directories(Sydney & NSW) for the years 1894, 1908,1909 & 1910 for a Graham H Pierce. Nothing definite though. I can post them if you want to check them out.

Wow good piece of sleuthing Sue - so it looks like the Graham  H Pierce who died in 1911 Sydney was married to Bertha G Masters in 1908.

Am I right in assuming this or have I missed something lol - easy for me to do today. lol

Ok I wonder where Mary Burnet fits into the picture.

Interesting for sure

Hi All,

I've NOT found Graham Hunter Pierce in Sydney NSW on the 1903 Electoral Roll in the electorates that  I've checked.  (I don't have keyword searchable access).   Presume that's why Troods has noticed a gap in the Sands directories ....   Could he have been in regional NSW, or inter-state or 'overseas'

Intriguing  ;D
