I take you mean Frances Whelan and not Fan Whelan. My great grandmother was Annie Whelan and one of her daughters was named Frances Whelan. They lived in Emerald Square, Dolphin's Barn, Dublin. Let me know if that is who you are referring to.

There are references to Frances Whelan, Fan Whelan and Anne Whelan. Frances or Fan may refer to the first woman barrister, first to take silk, first to be TCD Professor of Law, etc: her given name was Frances but everyone called her Fran.
Were your great-grandmother and her daughter in Inghinidhe na h-Éireann?
