picture with russian writing completed
« on: Monday 12 April 10 07:11 BST (UK) »
Can someone please help with the writing on this picture?  I tried to make it out, but was not able to.  The missing parts are blank.

Welcome to rootschat Elie.

I'm afraid you've forgotten to attach your picture.  ;)

Yes, I have had a lot of trouble with this post.  I keep getting this message: "Sorry! There is already an attachment with the same filename as the one you tried to upload. Please rename the file and try again."

Sorry I can't help you with that Elie. (I'm useless with that kind of thing  ;)).

Here is the rootschat guide to posting images:

Not sure if it will help or contains anything you don't already know. If it's the russian writing you need help with, the good news is that there are a couple of people on here who might be able to help.  :)

Good luck.

I can't read everything - for example the last word(s) in the space for the stamp  :-\ but here goes.

The text in the space for the stamps appears to say:

вместо марки посылаю вам горячий по ц…….
the position of the stamp that I sent you .............  ( I don't understand the words in this context :-\ )

In the top left: На память дорогому другу

In remembrance to a dear friend.

The next line appears to be a name: Хайке Соломон - Heike Solomon ?

from ......................... (this is probably a place name and I would transcribe it as Rakhili Alei.....)

In the bottom left is the date:

1921-го года ноября
18-20 November 1921

The other side is the address:
Т Игуінен
Минской губ
Базарная площадь Но 17
Р Алейніе

T. Iguinen (?)
Minsk gub.
Market Square No 17
R Aleinie (presumably the place mentioned on the other side?

I have included the handwriting - which will look different since the printed alphabet is not the same as the written one.

The writer appears to have used some letters which were eliminated from the alphabet following the revolution and that makes is a little difficult.

Hope that helps.

Thanks!  That was really nice of you!
I worked on it some more, and this is what I got:

На память дорогому другу
In remembrance to a dear friend

Cheike Solomon

from Rachel Aleinik

Instead of the stamp, I am sending you a kiss

Town of Igumen
Minsk Province
Market square No 17
R Aleinik

I do not know exactly what happened with the picture, but at least I now know what was written on it.

So a person instead of a place - did you have some clue from elsewhere about that?

Igumen is now known as Chervyen in Belarus.

Do you know anything else about either the Solomon or Aleinik families?
