Hi Liz,
From the research I've done on my husband's ancestors, in and around Nottingham, I know that many  of the Sulley/Sully family were framework knitters. When baptisms are hard to find apprenticeship records may help.
They have apprenticeship details (with and an index of names) in the Notts Archives. These will tell you an approximate date of birth (apprenticeship ususally started at about the age of 14 and ended at the age of 21. The records will tell you who they were apprenticed to, and often the father's name, etc.

Hi just to let you know I had not forgotten about my offer to look in Redhill
cemetery. I have got some Sully's for you ,but, have not found the one you are after . I will put them on Sunday September 26Th. I will check st Marys church
yard as there are a few graves there which are earlier.

wife Beatrice Ethel,born  6-12-1887,died 2-4-1978.

Elizabeth Sully,died 29-10-1953.

Hi Liz, I went to Notts Record office this morning I do,nt know if these are any of yours but they are all Arnold . I looked at wills index .
        Will of Thomas Sully 1741
         Will of William Sully 1710
         Will of Henry Sullly   1817.
I then looked at Apprenticeship Indentures ,these too are all Arnold.
         Henry Sully aged 11 years F.K.W. (Framework knitter) to Richard Bishop 1830.
         George Sully,aged 12 years ,F.W.K ,to Richard Bishop 1833.

I requested the Indenture of Nathan Sully to look at   .
                               Indenture
24 February 1806.Church Wardens, Jonathan Newham,Mark Redgate,
of the Parish of Arnold and William Hickman also William Rhodes overseers of the poor of Nottingham do put and place Nathan Sully aged about 9 years or there abouts, a child of the Parish of Arnold apprentice to his Grandfather
John Sully of Arnold F.W.K.,untill the full age of twentyone years. John Sully shall teach him the art of a knitter.
 I am going back next week would you like me to look at the Will of Thomas Sully 1741?.

Thanks Marie, for the information,I think Ive found George And Henry,not sure about Nathan,there's a baptism for a Nathan about the right time bu father just given as Sully/ey.Nathan seems to be a popular name in the Sully family.
I would love to any more information from Thomas Sully 1741 will.

Like Liz i am also researching this family and would be interested to hear of the Thomas Sully will in 1741.  I believe this may be associated with my Thomas Sully (1682-1743) who was buried 03/05/1743 in Arnold.

Hi, have also just come across these Sully/sulleys,in the History of Arnold.
The parish register:date 1641 Note-The poors moneywas this year increased by a gift of 40/- (forty shillings from Thomas Sulley and distributed on Chritmas Day 1683 by the church wardens and overseers.
Sully :There are some very old stones of this family ,which has been located in Arnold for more then 300 years.

According to the Report of the Charities Commission ,Notts ,1768 quoted in the returns of the Commissionners in 1839 there where  then four charities for the school, and for the Poor , Bartholomew Fillingham,s (Thomas Sulley £2)
 
Thomas Cludd , of Arnold, Gent, married Alice ,daughter of Thomas Sulley , of Arnold on 22nd of April,1583. There were born to them Edward Cludd , Martha(who was baptised in 1602),Samuel who is stated to be 17 years old in 1614
, and probably other children.

It would be well to note other Arnold worthies who played for their county (amongest other names it mentions Joseph Sully.

Bartholomew Fillingham.The Fillinghams seem to have been an Arnold family On November 16th 1599, Thomas Fillingham married Anne Sulley. Possibly Bartholomew descended from this union . He was a Puriton for in 1669 private meetings for religious worship were held once a week ,sometimes at the house of Richard Walker ,and sometimes at that of Mr Fillingham .

There also some referances to the name Mellors ,if you are intrested.
