Bason/Basson
« on: Friday 09 April 10 16:50 BST (UK) »
Hey everyone. I'm researching into the Bason/Basson family of Dorset. I've paved a direct line to around 1773, using the OPC, I'm dependent on the free online sources. I have found Basson's in Dorset, Sturminster Marshall as early as the 1550's, but there is no real way for me to connect them.

I'm wondering if anyone else has an interest in this family, or has come across the Basson/Bason family in their research?. From what I know, little is known of my family. I have never met a relative and neither have my family for generations.

Many thanks.

EDIT: UPDATE: I was stuck on James Bason born 1772/3, supposedly born in Morden, Dorset, but I managed to find the correct details for him, and his parents, in the Dorset Record Office. I have now managed to extend my direct lineage in Dorset to a gentlemen born around 1600. Feel free to contact me if you are interested or connected to the Bason's of Dorset!

Hi, The family of Basson that I am related to came from the berkshire/oxfordshire area. A lot more research as been carried out by someone else, this is a link to their site ;  http://www.bastonfamily.co.uk/

Thanks for the reply!

That's awesome. I did see that the Basson's were quite widely spread out across England. However I believe my line strays directly from the heart of Dorset.

I have some Bassons in my tree. They're fairly new finds so I don't know a lot about them. Maria married a Basson but I left her in because of the unique (in my tree) birthplace.

Wow! That's very interesting. Basson's from somerset! Thank you very much for sharing this.

And I would love to hear about Balson's from Dorset, I have never ever heard, nor come across the surname before, but certainly is of interest to me now. It looks very close to Basson, and I completly admit that my surname may be an evolution of a different surname.

Many thanks.

I can send a list of the Balsons / Balstons from Povington and Tyneham, Dorset.  The oldest I have is John born 1730 and the youngest are the children of William (1851).  My paternal grandmother Edith Ellen is among that group.  The tree was made using Family Tree Maker 2009.
