Burial Record

I am trying to locate burial records for 2 of my Ancestors. I have death certificates for them both so i know exactly when and where they died, however I've been unable to find any record of them being buried/cremated in the area where they both lived.

The details are:

John Kennedy  died 11th June 1893
Betsy Kennedy died 16th April 1907

They were a couple and they lived in Gorton Manchester at the time of their deaths.

Could anybody point me any direction please?

Have you tried contacting the local Council?  They usually hold copies of cemetery records and will do a search for you.

I should have mentioned that I've searched the Manchester city council burial records and they are not to be found there.

ive done a search of parish records at the central library but no luck. However, im not sure how concise these records are?

My thinking is, if they lived in manchester, they surely must have been buried or cremated somewhere, yet i can find no record whatsoever. I've even scoured newspaper archives for obituaries but still nothing.

I'd really appreciate it if anybody can help me as its become an obsession to find out where they are laid to rest.

I would have thought cremation unlikely for both John & Betsy, although Manchester had one of the first crematoria in England, cremation was very unpopular until much later, after the First World War.

Not all churches have deposited their registers, it may be worth your while contacting the local churches directly.

I think the time may also have come to move your topic to the Lancashire where help can be given by people who really know the area and can make other suggestions or have access to sources of information.

have you contacted Gorton Cemetery ? ( I have tried to post the link but it won't let me but if you google Gorton cemetery it will come up with an address). They may have some information and I agree with Dawn they were probably buried back then

I also felt that cremation was unlikely but as I knew about manchester crematorium being one of the first to fan its flames, I cant completely dismiss it.

The burial records for Gorton Cemetery are available online at the manchester city council website. I have searched on there with no success.
