Borstal/detention centre

Wondering if anybody can help -pretty vague question, sorry but... if a lad in the 1950'swho lived in Ellesmere Port was sent to borstal or a detention centre where would they have gone? Was there such a thing in Ellesmere Port?

I have no idea, but would guess that there was a Borstal in most large towns, so maybe he was sent to Liverpool, or Manchester.  I think some of the Borstals were in old army camps.  Presumablly the "lad in the 1950s" is still alive?  If so you could ask him

Thanks for replying.  Unfortunately the lad is not still alive so I will have to go back to the drawing board!
