Hi I am looking for the parents of William Webb born about 1861 in Beverly. He was an actor, so maybe his parents were travelling actors as well.

I was going to say the same thing.  I can't find a birth for him in the Beverley district between 1858 and 1862, and he's not on the 1871 census (or the 1861).
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

there are about 6 duplicate threads! I've just linked one with no replies to this one ....  but now see lots of others, so I dont know if any have any more info on them.
Bear with me and I will try to link.

oK I have linked the threads so they all refer back to here ....
However the last one I found does actually have more info on it

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=448846.new

so maybe I should have linked them all to that, but I wont change it now!

Basically it seems he has been found on 1901 census

RG13 3954 133 55
Preston Lancashire
William Webb 40 Actor bn Beverley Yorks
Agnes 24 wife bn Birmingham
Margaret 1 mth bn Blyth Northumberland

all lodging in a lodging house. Other lodgers include an acrobat and his family!

I suspect William Webb was a stage name.  There's a Margaret Agnes Webb born Mar 1901 Tynemouth 10b, 336.  But it's doubtful whether that would help with William's origins if he had changed his name.

Thanks everyone I am new at this. Sorry about the duplicates I thought I would ask under different sections in case different people looked at them. Didnt know they could be linked. So thanks again

I have the birth certificate of Margaret Agnes who was born in Tynemouth states father is Willaim Webb. Found the family in 1901  census and know his wife is Agnes Webb nee Harper born 17/9/1872
. It said on that census that he was 40 and born in Beverly. Im not sure where to go from here. As I also couldnt find him on other cencses.  ???Maybe actors were of no abode???

Were actors part of a circus can I find any thing on these.

Also not sure about when he died. So maybe he had a different name??

I know there was one more child I think called Violet but will have to check. I believe she died as a small child.

If William Webb is a stage name would it  have been put on  the birth certificate and have  been used for the family. Or would just the William part be the stage name.

Thanks again for your help

There's a marriage of an Agnes Harper in Tynemouth in Mar q 1897.  Her husband would be either Richard Gibson or Arthur Scoulding.  Too much of a long shot, I suppose.
There would have been nothing to stop someone changing their name unofficially.  There still isn't!
